Col. Charles Noble (1898–1979), a West Point graduate, was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in 1922 and became one of 25 officers who founded USAA, holding policy number 7. During WWII, he commanded Combat Command B of the 16th Armored Division, leading the liberation of Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, and earning the title “Liberator of Bohemia.” He received the Czechoslovakian Military Cross, the Order of the White Lion, the Bronze Star with “V” for valor, and the Legion of Merit. After retiring in 1949, he founded an investment and property management business.
